Benefits of Enrolling your Patients
The Martha and Richard Melman Family Bicuspid Aortic Valve Program is committed to finding innovative solutions to improve the quality and length of life for patients with BAV. Here are ways your patients can benefit from our program.
Access to state of the art research
Our program is home to a dynamic multi-disciplinary research team that is focused on providing new knowledge that will help guide patient care and improve outcomes for patients and their families with BAV, now and in the future.
Screening for First-Degree Relatives
The program invites all patients and their first-degree relatives to participate in a research database. For the clinical community, enrollment may help advance our knowledge of the disease including the role of novel imaging and the optimal timing of treatment. For the first-degree relative, enrollment provides screening, expert clinical care and treatment options. The research database is maintained at the Clinical Trials Unit of Northwestern and monitored by Jyothy J. Puthumana, MD, cardiologist and medical director of Northwestern's Bicuspid Aortic Valve Program and S. Chris Malaisrie, MD, cardiac surgeon and surgical director of Northwestern's Bicuspid Aortic Valve Program.
Updates for Referring Physicians
Enrollment in the Bicuspid Aortic Valve Program allows us to provide the referring physician with updates and alerts on the timing of the next clinic visit/echocardiogram/imaging study and for the optimal timing of potential interventions.
